Jesuit Church – Mirador

The Jesuit Church, erected on the birthplace of San Ildefonso, Toledo pattern, It has more than three centuries of history. Open to worship in 1718, stands out for its main chapel with a original altarpiece in fresco painting, framed by columns and trompe l'oeil. The large baroque altarpieces on each side of the central nave narrate the history of the Society of Jesus.

In 1583, They opened the Colegio de San Eugenio. The birthplace of San Ildefonso was bought in 1569 to build a church and professed house. The donations of Pedro and Estefanía Manrique allowed the project to expand.

The church was enshrined in 1718 and completed in 1765, although the Jesuits were expelled in 1767. They returned in 1903, but they closed their residence in 2011. Nowadays, The Church of San Ildefonso is a diocesan sanctuary.

The Jesuit Church in Toledo is a magnificent example of counter-reformation architecture, with a single nave flanked by side chapels interconnected and an imposing dome over the transept.

Influenced by the Church of the Gesu in Rome, It is inspired by the Jesuit churches of Palencia and Alcalá. baroque lighting directs the light towards the main altar, highlighting the eucharist. The baroque façade was designed by Francisco Bautista. The altarpieces and sculptures stand out, including works of German Lopez Mejia and trompe l'oeil of the Velázquez brothers, creating a museum of sacred art inside the temple.
