Alcazar of Toledo – El Greco's masterpiece

The Church of Santo Tomé is the most visited in the entire city, since he owns the El Greco painting “The burial of the Lord of Orgaz”· One of the masterpieces of painting of all time, installed on his tomb.

The church was built after the capture of the city by Alfonso VI. Later it occupied a mosque, being completely rebuilt in the fourteenth century precisely by the Lord of Orgaz, don Gonzalo Ruiz de Toledo. However, some Visigothic capitals refer to a possible earlier church.

It is of three ships with cruiser, covered by barrel vaults during the Renaissance and polygonal apse.

Its Mudejar tower is very similar to that of the church of San Román: square plan with two levels of openings framed by double arches separated by a row of separate blind arches (unique case in the city) by small ceramic columns from Talavera dela Reina.
