Museo del Greco

The El Greco Museum is currently the only one in Spain dedicated to the figure of the painter. Its essential purpose is to transmit and make the figure of El Greco understandable to society, as well as the influence of his work and personality in Toledo in the early seventeenth century.
Inside, is part of the painter's work. Among his works stands out a magnificent ‘Apostolate’, “The View and Plan of Toledo” and “The Tears of Saint Peter”. The museum is completed with paintings by Luis Tristán, Murillo, Valdés Leal and other artists.
The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century, taking advantage of an earlier one from the 16th century and a Renaissance palace to bring together the artist's scattered work in the same space.. The Marquis de la Vega-lnclán, He was the one who acquired these buildings and complemented them with furniture and furnishings from the 16th century.. The museum opened in 1912.

The collections of the Museo del Greco present to the public a significant sample of pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries, representative not only of his life and work, but also of his last years of life, of culture, the Toledo society of the moment…

There are 104 exhibited works and others 1.850 wait in deposit.

THE APOSTOLATE – It is one of the most interesting sets in his collection. “El Salvador ”heads the series of 12 apostles, masterfully enhanced in close-up and capturing the viewer with their dematerialized and extremely expressive faces

ACCESSIBILITY
The different spaces in the building have been adapted to guarantee maximum accessibility for all visitors., including those who have a disability.
The Museum has an elevator, Elevated platforms, chairs save stairs, ramps and wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility.

Regarding communication barriers, the following resources have been incorporated for people with hearing disabilities:
– Magnetic loop in customer service counters and auditorium.
– Subtitling and videos in Spanish Sign Language in all audiovisuals.
– Induction loop to connect to audio guides.
– Sound amplifiers to connect to audio guides.
